## Introduction

Dandy Tianxin Weng is a nomadic photographer, designer, and software developer from Guangzhou, China. An autodidact since childhood, he has pursued a self-directed, unconventional, and multidisciplinary life shaped by photography, design, technology, and travel.

## Education

Dandy left school at seven and pursued an autodidactic path. He never returned to conventional education. His parents instilled in him the ability to learn, and he taught himself the rest, largely through the internet.

Around age ten, he learned graphic design and vector software. At twelve, he embraced photography, learning how to use a camera to make meaningful images. A year later, programming became his focus. By fifteen, he had begun combining these interests through Camarts.

Although his education is sometimes described as homeschooling, Dandy believes autodidacticism is a more accurate term for his unstructured, self-directed, passion-oriented way of learning. Homeschooling often emphasizes studying at home and may still follow curricula set by schools, teachers, or parents, while Dandy’s learning was driven primarily by his own interests.

## Nomadic Life

At age 28, Dandy began living nomadically, with no fixed home base and a minimal set of belongings that fit into one suitcase and one backpack. His travel setup includes a Mac mini, a foldable monitor, a full set of peripherals, and essential living items, allowing him to turn short-term rental homes into temporary living and working spaces.

When he needs a break from constant travel, he usually stays in a rental home in Chiang Mai or Ho Chi Minh City for one or two months, focusing on photo editing, coding, and other desk-based work.

## Travel

Growing up in a road-trip-loving family and free from schoolwork, Dandy traveled with his parents to every province-level region in China before turning 19, then began traveling internationally.

As of June 2026, according to the Camarts location database, he has traveled to more than 500 cities across the following countries and regions:

- Australia
- Austria
- Belgium
- Brunei
- Canada
- China
- Czechia

## Photography

Dandy has more than a decade of experience behind the camera. What began as an interest in landscape photography, inspired by childhood road trips, has developed into street photography, documentary work, and visual storytelling.

His current work spans travel, culture, landscape, street photography, and long-form documentary projects. In addition to commissions and assignments, he self-publishes through Camarts.

Dandy is mentored by John Stanmeyer in documentary photography, photojournalism, and visual storytelling. He is a Pro Member of The Raw Society: https://therawsociety.org/dandy-tianxin-weng

### Gear

For landscape work, he uses a Hasselblad X2D with XCD 25V, 55V, and 90V lenses. For super-telephoto photography, he uses a Canon EOS R5 with an RF 100–500mm lens, sometimes paired with a 2× extender.

Previously, Dandy used a Leica Q2 for five years, which cemented 28 mm as his favorite focal length. He also practiced aerial photography between 2017 and 2024 using DJI Mavic series drones, but sold them before beginning his nomadic life.

### Workflow

Dandy’s photo editing workflow centers on an iPad Pro. He imports images directly from the camera to the device, uses Lightroom for archive management and editing, and processes and publishes images through a custom app.

### Photo Licensing

Dandy’s photographic work may be licensed through the Camarts iOS app where available. Licensing allows users to download and use selected images according to the license terms provided by Camarts.

His programming background reflects the same multidisciplinary approach as his photography and design: practical, self-directed, and focused on building complete products from idea to execution.

## Personal Projects

### Camarts

Camarts is a personal project that unites Dandy’s interests in travel, photography, design, and programming. It functions as a digital gallery for his photography, a platform for experimenting with product design and emerging technologies, and a personal expression.

Licenses to download and use his photographic work are sold through Camarts. Revenue supports his travel and server costs.

Camarts is available as a Progressive Web App and as native apps for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS, and Android. Advanced features, including Artistic HDR™ viewing, photo licensing, and more, are available only on iOS and iPadOS.

Dandy is committed to processing at least one photo for Camarts every day, published at 00:00 UTC. Photos are released in an editorial sequence rather than chronological order. Since beginning his nomadic life, he has built up a significant backlog of images, with more opportunities to photograph and less time available for editing. As a result, some photos are published more than two years after they were taken.
